Mr Matthew Baker
BM MRCS(Ed) FCEM PG Dip SEM
Mr Baker trained at Southampton Medical School and graduated in 1999, following this he trained in Poole, Swindon, Bath and Cornwall gaining his surgical training and Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.
He was then appointed as a Specialist Registrar in Emergency Medicine gaining valuable further training and experience in the Emergency Departments of Portsmouth, Southampton and Basingstoke Hospitals. He was subsequently successful in passing the Fellowship in Emergency Medicine exam.
In 2009 he was appointed as a Consultant in Emergency Medicine at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital, in addition he provides out of hours cover to Stroke patients requiring clot busting drugs and the Emergency Deparment at Poole Hospital.
Mr Baker has always had a passion for sport. He gained his brown and white belt in Shotokan karate, enjoys long distance running and has competed in a number of half marathons and ran the Edinburgh full marathon in the heat wave of 2012.
He makes use of the gym and has previously gained experience as a gym instructor, he cycles and swims socially and plays golf extremely badly!
Therefore he has the ability to match his personal experience to his medical knowledge to fully understand your symptoms and maintain your fitness whilst diagnosing your injury and arranging treatment.
Is involved in the teaching of other doctors in the full range of Emergency presentations
Directs the Wessex Emergency Medicine Musculoskeletal course - teaching junior doctors on the correct examination and management of joint and soft tissue injuries
